Was I wrong towards this customer?

I rang up a drunk ass customer (white dude). I was friendly and I can tell he was also sad. He wasn't having a good day, no shyt your in a public store drunk as fukk.

I passed him a note with his receipt that said "Sober up. You can do it".
He read it out loud, only said half of "sober". Like "Sob...that's inappropriate" all mad and left. I said have a good day.

I genuinely feel bad for the man. He looked in his late 30s - early 40s.

I know I'm gonna hear fukk that cac. If I don't see sign of racism nor hate. I just try to treat a person as a person.
