Listening to it, sounds like it. Wouldn't be surprised this was around the time Jay was touring with Talib and The Roots and them and Ja hit him and told him to stop hanging with them backpack nikkas, and he said Jay hit back like "Don't ever in your life tell me what to do"

According to JA.

Gotti and Ja took Jay's decision a couple of years ago to skip out on a full-length Ja/Jay/X LP as a slap in the face. Then, in April of this year, Hov pulled out of a Triple Threat Tour slated for June that would have included the Roc-A Fella, Bad Boy and Murder Inc. families. Though Jay initially explained he hoped to record over the summer, he changed his mind and joined the Sprite Liquid Mix tour in August. For Ja and Gotti, the Sprite tour was the last straw.
Ja two-wayed Jay to ask, "Why the backpack nlggas and not me, your nikka?" Ja found Hova's answer to be dis turbing. "[Jay-Z] said, 'I'ma tell you this one time, 'cause I feel I fukked up, but don't ever ask me my personal business again,"' Ja recounts in amazement. "At first, I took offense to it Well, Ja and Irv inverted it after that two-way conversation. Adopting an equally self-serving attitude that they hoped would catapult the Inc. to a place among Bad Boy and Death Row in the heights of hip-hop history, they brought forth a new piece to the center of the board: Jay Z's rival, Nas.

underrated album

VERY underrated. Young Chris LACED this shyt. Features & production on point (Beans on Roc U, Jay on Never Take Me Alive, Freeway on Parade - RETARDED). BARS FOR DAYS on this album & Chris could say some shyt & just hit you wit that PAIN outta nowhere. I used to think Just Blaze did most of the album. Chad Wes, Boola & Bink have these nikkas some HEAT.

I can't stress enough how upset I was that a lot of Hip-Hop/Roc fans slept on this album. 2004 was a good year for rap. This was one of the reasons why, IMO.

Almost forgot Neef was on that album :lolbron: voice always annoyed me but he had a few moments. Think he was at his best on Life We Chose, That's Right & Whatever It Takes. Everything else :camby:

Young Chris was a dope MC :mjcry: he was supposed to be next up. A Chris & Kanye/Just project would've been :wow:

I think Jay knew that...

That Album is a classic but Chris carried whole thing. Neef can rap but Chris does all the work. Some of those songs were originally Chris solo songs

Tough Luv is most def underrated

Give Chris them Kanye, Pharrell, Timbo & Just beats & he would have been a platinum artist

Ppl forget how Jay didn't start calling himself Young Hov til Young Chris was in the picture.

Ppl forget Chris brought back the whisper flow & then Jay started using it more frequently

Them philly boys were so instrumental in rap at the time
