Last week, Kendrick Lamar took the stage on Saturday Night Live and gave an incredibly DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE of his current single, “i.” The rendition featured a live band and Kendrick showcasing some of the choreography from the song’s video. Strikingly, K.Dot also wore black eye contacts and his hair in a style that many took to be a tribute to Method Man. The linkage was further strengthened by the fact that Method Man’s Tical 2000 album, where Meth sported similar black contacts on the cover, was released almost exactly 16 years prior (11/17). When MTV caught up with RZA, they asked the Wu-Tang Clan general if he had thoughts on the performance and RZA showed appreciation and added a layer to the interpretation of Kendrick’s perceived tribute. He pointed out that Kendrick’s performance (11/15) also took place just two days after the 10th anniversary of Ol’ Dirty b*stard‘s DEATH (11/13) and he believed Kendrick was paying his respects to ODB, as well.
