Her outspokenness and rustic timbre gained her as many followers as it inspired malicious detractors. Simone, nevertheless, stands as a powerful figure in music and American culture, with this documentary daring to consider her anew as the conventions that once stifled her have now shifted in drastic ways.

I put this on my watch list yesterday thinking it had been listed all this time and I missed it. You guys saying it's new? Will always remember her for I wish I knew how it would be to be free, could have been the greatest song of all time if it wasn't for the runs she does at the end

From the fukked up married life, to the depression, to the activism to the Curtis Institute refusing her entry, then giving her an honourary degree post mortem.

Definitely worth watching.
