So nobody gonna talk about that scene with the token nikka beating the black skater? :mjpls:
Or that scene where some cac was basically pissing on the black kid? :mjpls:
I don't and have never considered that racist at all...basically that's the shyt that happens when people fukk with skaters. It's a NYC thing. If you watch the movie you notice how diverse Telly and Casper's set of friends are. And you're talking about Harold Hunter (RIP) the famous Zoo York pro skater beating up the non skater (and then all of the other kids jump in). That black dude wasn't a skater you're referring to..that was some guy who wanted to start shyt with Casper (Justin Pierce RIP).

I've seen situations like that happen. Especially back in the 90s when people thought skateboarding was some punk whiteboy shyt. The crowds of skaters here in NYC and like anywhere else have always been diverse and everyone's had each other's back. Extreme yes...but yeah, that's not far removed from reality.

But yeah...that New York that KIDS was set in is long gone.

Great movie, but it has me wondering, was the teenage experience in NYC really like that at the time?
I could imagine. I was mad young during that time, around the age of the kids in that film...so everytime I see that movie I just think about my friends and growing up skating and stuff...not in NYC in Pittsburgh...but shyt, teens back in the 90s were just wild. I miss those days...there's never going to be another time like that again. It really gives the viewer a window into what new york was like back then.

BTW...the soundtrack in the movie and the actual OST are completely. The OST is damn near all Sebadoh/Lou Barlow tracks while the movie soundtrack is damn near all golden age 90s hip-hop.

All i see is a bunch of cacs and a few token negroes... :manny:
The question is why they chose a black guy for that scene though? :mjpls: If you look at the background at that park is mostly cacs and latinos.
And who cares they were a diverse crowd? I have black friends i can't be racist :troll:

I've actually dude on the left in the first pic, that's Jeff Pang. Used to ride for Zoo York. Gave Moby his first gig. Peter Bici is in that pic too...and Javier Nunez.

I honestly don't see the racism here or in that movie and you know I'm like the first one to call that shyt out. Forgot about the asian girl with the bjorky styled blond twists with the wide leg raver jeans on too in this scene.
