Yes they can if they listen to the music on a loudspeaker. In a club, if you're a dj using mp3's, and another dj comes on with lossless files, he will blow you out the water with clearer audio. If you want clear audio with a smallerfile size use flac or apples lossles files. For mp3's to sound better get platinum notes software. Do a google search. If you are a dj using mp3 you BETTER get platinum notes software. If you can the best sound for a small file size that is close to cd quality is 256 aac. That is why apple chose that as their main bit rate and audio file, for high quality songs instead of 320 mp3. I agree with their choice.

It will sound dull though. Trust me you can hear a difference when the music is loud. The only time you may not notice is if all your music is low bitrate but, as soon as one song comes on that is a higher quality it will make the rest seem boring,
