You aren't alone. The tapes are wildly popular. I think the Clipse are absolute trash mcs vocally. They have pipsqueak voices.

That's a valid point, but they were just very unique with the way they conveyed things lyrically, Pusha's voice was definitely squeaky as hell when he first came out though. The tape was more than the Clipse though blood, you had Liva and Sandman with some crazy verses too. Liva is insanely underrated, at least as far as his work on that tape.

TBH that verse is one of my favorite hip hop verses of all time.

Pusha's flow and lyrics were just too much, aside from the bite/allusion to INS's verse on Triumph, but regardless, that boy :deadhorse: that song.

This and HHNF are Pusha's masterpieces. Flow, lyrics, double entendres, razor sharp through out. Showing that extra piece of flair and lyrical guile that you don't see from rappers like Styles & Jada.

I'm a huge Styles P and Jada fan, but tbh, that was the dynamic of the Clipse that was so unique. They were so damn subtle with shyt, it wasn't even metaphors per se, it was just if you didn't listen close you'd miss how clever they were.

It's crazy too if you think about it because honestly Pusha was so unrefined and shytty when he was younger, by the time he hit HHNF and this tape especially, his technicality was so much better than Malice's.

Honestly though Liva was crazy on this tape too. His details and flow were ridiculous.

I remember when I first heard it though I thought Sandman and Liva were one person cause they sounded the same to me. :sadcam:

Yep, just that extra edge.

Like that line above "black hands, white keys" the image is vivid breh. Then "you've seen this, i'm Ray." Extra imagery (Charles' black hands on the white piano keys) and extra meaning (Pusha is the Ray Charles legend of the shyt). So rare. Followed by another dope punchline.

Liva is under-rated. he has a dictionary flow that just sounds beautiful at times. He paints them pictures. I actually think he in particular was instrumental in the Clipse stepping it up. He needs to get writing for Kanye or something.

Still play that tape religiously. Rap at it's finest. Wonder what happened to Sandman after the fallout though :(
