I'd make the argument that we have more balance in entertainment now that we did in the 90's.

We have way more options now other than network television.

The issue isn't balance. The reality is the general audience isn't interested in stuff like this as much as they are interested in mindless entertainment.

This show only lasted 3 seasons and most people don't remember it.

You know what most people would remember from the 90's?

No disrespect to Martin I loved that show but it is what it is.

It is interesting that instead of highlighting the interesting and entertaining media that doesn't fall into the stereotypical category, there's more threads on here about Pop The Balloon, some random gender war hot take, Charleston White disrespecting somebody's children, etc.

It was plenty of bs stuff to get into on tv back then but as another poster said there was more balance given the limited options of tv networks to watch at the time. There are lot of different shows available now but you have to pay for the majority of it and most of the less provocative stuff isn't going to get promoted like it would back then when networks had showrunners for different demographics and were more invested in shows generally.

Streaming did away with most of that investment by cutting the pay and residuals to writers, actors, and production. Most of the content now is sink or swim and if people like it big money might get behind it.

It's kind of crazy seeing Roc get more appreciation in recent years. It was always a good show but it kinda flew a little under the radar a little on it's time.
