I wont even bring up that they was popping in the late 80's early 90's.
But realistically since 95 when P got popping the south has been either at the top of the game or tied for the top spot. Then the Cash Money took over the game.Don't get me wrong the east coast/mid west/west coast had great runs, but the south has stayed on top since 95.Even when P went away Cash Money took over. When Cash Money started to fade Outkast who had already been selling platinum albums went to a whole new level.Followed by T.I, then Jeezy took off.Gucci Mane took off.Lil John locked down at least 5 summers.Houston had a run.Everyone had a run.Cash Money came back and took the game over again.
The south has stayed on top of the game like no other coast.

I'm sorry, but the south wasn't even a blip on the radar in 95..
acting like Houston and Memphis wasn't making some of the dopest music out in those years. Just because they were ignored by jaded coastal nikkas doesnt mean shyt.
