We need an official John Madden thread. Football was just more fun with that man in the booth.

He was one of my favorite broadcasters. Insightful and funny. Him and Summerall were a great duo.

Nic Cage is playing him and Christian Bale as Al Davis in a David Russell movie that’s supposed to come out next year

Madden and Summerall were very good, but they would have been the B-Team next to Monday Night Football with Dandy Don Meredith, Frank Gifford and Howard Cossell. Gifford was born to be a broadcaster because he was funny as Hell.

I miss broadcasters that appreciated shyt beyond just the QB. Madden would give anyone credit if they made plays whereas now it's an industry designed around glazing QBs. Because those QBs then become the next broadcasters. It's a cycle.
He ALWAYS gave the down linemen shine. Just made the whole game seem like an event. I miss that.
