Being controlled and told how your life is going to turn out is WAY more comforting, less stressful and it's an easier thought process. Having your own agency of how your life is going to turn out is daunting to alot of people
People who challenge the status quo and "think outside the box" are an extreme, extreme minority

Perfect example are the people who say "there's too many podcasts".... People secretly wish we would go back to the time when there were only 4-5 channels on TV and only 3 national newspapers that completely dominated the media and made it easier to brainwash the public. To alot of people, it's easier to to follow 1 or 2 narratives, instead of 50+ narratives. It makes complete sense why Religion was/is so popular

I don't watch every single Podcast, but I love that so many have free speech to say whatever the hell they want and that there is an audience to listen to them. I personally love the fact that there are Youtubers/Instagram content creators that have 2 million followers, and I have no idea who the hell they are
More power to them :salute:

Another example is the "Damn everyone got an LLC now" or "LLC babble" I see everywhere on Social Media. But these same people are mad when Corporations have monopolies that allow them to dictate prices of all the products we buy, and lay off millions of workers on the spot to protect their bottom line. Make it make sense lol

Just an observation :ehh:

I understand this point.

But I could also make the argument that today it is so much easier to spread misinformation because of the internet and social media. You can have every stupid idea, every odd conspiracy theory, every bigoted and racist view...you can have it all confirmed and reinforced.

Sure, 60 years ago you mostly had people watching ABC, NBC, CBS.
But there were A LOT...A LOT more newspaper companies. A lot more radio stations and shows. There were honest debates on tv and radio. And a lot of people were exposed to both sides. Well, not even "both sides". Various sides.

If you watched dikk Cavett he had a lot of different guests and views aired on his platform. News media was generally down the middle before the profit motive and ratings took over. You think today with all the options at our disposal, we're getting Chomsky vs Foucault debates? Or Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer? or James Baldwin and Bill Buckley?

Almost everything is consolidated now. So at the mass-media level, you can get manipulated if you're reading the news on one of those Sinclair platforms.
But in the vastness of the internet you can also get manipulated by Twitter and Facebook and everything else. Even the coli.

I'm not sure that people want to be told what to do. That seems a bit too authoritative to me.
I think what we're seeing is that when left up to their own devices, people are shying away from anything that challenges their world view.

True I get your point. But what constitutes the "right information" and "misinformation", and who is the judge of that? I think so many have been conditioned to syphon their thoughts into one mode of thinking and they got comfortable with it. Anything can be classified as "misinformation" even if it's not that controversial, which is dangerous IMO. Every thought process should be challenged, whether you and I agree with that stance or not

The 2nd bolded. On the contrary. We don't need famous talking heads to be the pinnacle of thought provoking conversation. Personally, you can find many thought provoking conversations from random podcasts from Educated people who have a Youtube account, or Seminars from experts that are filmed and put online. Or just a random live stream between two individuals who have intriguing thoughts. That's the irony of the situation. It literally falls in line with a semi-deity where just because someone is on TV, with a suit and tie, or has a famous book, they should be thought of as some arbiter of thought provoking information

And the 3rd bolded. Tomatoe Tomato. If you have no care to challenge your worldview, then you will be perfectly fine with being told what to do

Most of the stuff I listen to are niche podcasts that revolve around Boxing or the NBA

For the popular ones, I like the Pivot Podcast, Spencer Cornelia, Lewis Howes, Tom Bilyeu, Math Hoffa Podcast, PocketWatchingWithJT, and Moody's Corporation

The algorithm is telling people what to do now, though. And they accept any old podcast about relationships or fake pro black capitalist scammers.

Petty Vandross.. fukk Yall
Podcast=nobody holds accountability for what they saying
When you call people out nowadays
nikkas duck, dodge and jump barrels like Mario
Freedom of speech does not preclude getting caught slipping and catching an issue
As far as people just wanting orders
It’s not that
People just want easy lives and conformity is the easiest way not to ruffle feathers
This whole website practices conformity on some level
nikkas love parroting the same shyt
And once a nikka comes and shyt on your whole existence
Now it’s DeathStar level Ad hominem attacks
Group think is real but sometimes(only in very small instances) it’s needed for survival
But the cats out the bag now and echo chambers run every facet of media in the world today
