As a young Philly marsupial growing up, it blew my mind of how dope southern producers were. Mainly for their baselines in the production. Like the shyt felt soulful compared to the East Coast filtering and just drums and sample. For instance:

The patterns of the bass and the whole vibe just puts you in that zone. Don't get me started with the Dungeon Family:

Straight up, deeply rooted to the basics.

We as hip hop heads need to appreciate the fundamentals as the southern brehs elevated the rap shyt to new heights for the time. Listen to a 90s east coast track to a southern track and tell me the baseline was wild superior on southern tracks, than east coast tracks.

Hell, west coast producers had the piano and synth sounds, but the bass just felt a bit electronic, while I can picture the spirit of BB King in the booth for some southern tracks.
