Building codes in the US keep the death toll low.

We could potentially see some crazy numbers as global warming pushes storms into areas that usually don’t get hit. And even that wouldn’t match what happens in developing countries.

We have disasters every few months here. People on the West Coast are still dealing with wildfires. Folks in Louisiana are still dealing with the aftermath of hurricane Ida and from hurricanes that hit in 2020.

These stories just don't have enough sizzle for the media to care about after the initial event happens.
