Lets see there were some people from Senegal, ghana, sierra leone, Ethiopian, and a couple more I can't remember
Before I start please no trolling serious topic
So first we started off talking about what we thought of eachothers culture. And common stereotypes
Africans: generally they admired African Americans outgoingness, some of them said were loud.
Stereo types were from media they said they only get shown our action movies and hip-hop so they're parents tell them to stay away from AA's
AA's: there were different cultures there so we couldn't exactly say our thoughts on each individuals culture one guy said he thought Africans are very intentful and african Americans are more laid back. Stereotypes talked about were Africans think they are smarter then us.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then we started talking about the divide between us and how we can become closer. Mediator asked us black Americans why we think some of us don't try to learn about Africa.
I said because there's no one place we can claim. Africa has a lot of countries. Other then a general area (west Africa) we don't know where we come from. Then the audience started going off on a tangent. With various people from both sides talking about how our school systems don't teach us about eachother
AA: several of us were saying were taught all this European history but nothing about Africa ever really comes up.This AA pan africanist went on a tangent advocating it and talking about what he's learned. Saying we really should be brought up in like a pan africanist mindset
A: they said they weren't really taught about us either
Both sides agreed that education could defenitely help us bridge the gap so that when we first meet each other it's not all stereotypes running through our minds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then we started talking about our current relationship. generally agreed there's a tension some people said there's hate there. This one dude said he had an African parent and AA parent and identified with both but he said coming up in new Orleans there was hate there not just simple misunderstanding
Most of the Africans said that when they first got here their first instinct was to reach out to a similar face(AA's) but if that first interaction goes sour they kind of back off. They say AA's are very inclusive and prideful of their culture we don't conform.
white supremacy was tossed around a couple times by AA's. This one dude said were all suffering from white supremacy so we need to band together. He said he sees all these other races do it why cant we?maybe he's a coli poster
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then both sides started talking about how we should come together
AA:girl says white people all view us the same here in america. I'm black, you black lets stick together
A:education about eachother is the key. this one guy said Africans need to also do that with eachother as well as AA's
I might be forgetting some things so ask me and I'll try to remember if we talked about it
