When I think of a great film that just so happens to be based around a comic book character I think of the dark knight trilogy. Do you think Avengers successfully crossed that bridge like Nolan did with Batman?

I think there's plenty of depth to the Infinity Saga to call them great movies... There's a really good philosophical element and everyone has a clear role.. everyone plays their role well... there's great action set pieces and sci-fi elements as well.

However, if I had to say one movie I'd go with Infinity War. I don't believe End Game is a great movie by itself. It's a little clunky and works better as part of a series.

Infinity War works well as a standalone movie.

Winter Soldiers, Iron Man, both MCU Spider-Man, are pretty good movies.

Hard to consider Infinity War outside of the MCU since what makes it cool is being the culmination of all these previous movies. But it's definitely top tier comic book movies.

I don’t think either one of those movies are great films but they are top tier comic book movies. I’d say Winter Soldier is the best MCU film.
Agree, in a vacuum they don't work. You need to know about the other films to understand everything completely.
Ironman is a cool stand alone movie in the MCU. I think it's a great performance by RDJ. Maybe the entire movie falls short of being 'great'.
Black Panther is great thematically which I put a lot of weight to (theme) and it has some great performances. So I would put that in the great category.

But were Infinity War and Endgame intended to be great films?

i don’t think so, they’re designed to be great comic book movies from the outset, the audience already bought in a long time ago.

i don’t think the argument is necessary :yeshrug:

Black Panther is a great movie that honestly blew my mind with how quickly it established that world (I had a limited knowledge of Black Panther prior)

The acting/script are A1. I can’t put it in my “great movie list” vs my “great comic book movie list” because of other issues. Mainly CGI and the finale. However, the longer I type this the move I believe I could be persuaded otherwise.

Are True Lies, Jurassic Park, or T2 great films or great action movies?

You gotta be real pretentious to categorize things that way. They're all films. If you think a comic book movie is great than it's a great film.
Its about the pool we’re comparing against. And comic book movies have been historically bad so its easier to compare in that realm.

But its not gonna compare to other movies.
