I seem Claude Anderson and others say integration destroyed the black community. cause it made us dependent on other races and took a lot of stuff out of our community. We had buses stores diners etc before integration..and after integration it went down hill. what y'all think was integration a bad thing

I think it divided the black community but i still dont buy the "it was better during integration" part.

People tend to bond and unite when under extreme duress. I'm sure blacks were even closer during slavery. Once that ended they were still close since they were segregated from whites but not as close as before. Now that segregation is gone (perceived) those that wanted to get away from the community have options to do so.

Look at it this way: When you see immigrants in the U.S. you think they all stick together, right? And they do. But some of those same immigrants wouldn't even talk to each other in their own countries because they belong to different social classes and circles.
Example im Haitian and in the Haitian community here you may see a Haitian doctor speaking to a Haitian waitress here like they're friends. Why? We're on a foreign land but have a common language and culture and interests when it comes to our home land. But take those same two individuals and drop them back home. One will be living up in the hills in their luxury home with their other rich friends and the other will be in the slums with no reason to address each other, EVER.

Similar logic but in reverse because of the oppression factor.

It destroyed our mentality and made us forget (or not aware) what we're really up against.

Example: an athlete/activist like Muhammad Ali isn't possible today because the modern-day athlete didn't grow up seeing OVERT, in-your-face racism. Ali was possible because he KNEW racism existed. Lots of us today aren't truly aware of it because it (racism) has gone COVERT.

Basicly, pre-integration we could physically see the barriers holding us back. Today, not so much

Crime was lower
Family bonds were stronger
We owned most of the bussinesses in our communities
Athletes were more vocal about our discrimination
Music was FAAAAAR more positive
Education was taken more seriously

So we were better off in many ways, but there were alot of negatives aswell, such as race mobs and cops attacking us in broad daylight and receiving no consequences, it was actually legal for a while for anyone to rape a black woman and receive no reprecussions, our facilities usually werent as good as whites, voting discrimination, etc.

So we were doing better in some aspects and worse in others. All in all I would much rather live today than in pre integration era.

Better is certainly relative in this situation. As for quality of life, no.

Integration was another divisive tactic giving the illusion of freedom and equality when it was still white supremacy dictating the terms of this "equality"

It was another form of the "good ones" mentality.

Here are Kwame Ture's thoughts:

" No man can give anybody his freedom. Man is born free. You can enslave a man after he is born free. That's what this country does. It enslaves black people after they are born...

We are not gonna wait for white people to sanction black power. We're tired of waiting. Every time black people move in this country they're forced to defend their position before they move. "

And the most important part " Black people must be seen doing and articulating for themselves"

Integration on any other terms could be seen as a hollow victory. It allows the white power structure and those who seek to keep it in place, from those at the top to those who would rather not lose their place down low, to see it as a gift.

You hear it sometimes in their words.

" We gave you freedom."
" We let you integrate"
" what else do black people want from us?"

And the most recent for me: " What can we do to get black people to be silent?"

I'm not at home and don't have my book with me but he has some very specific thoughts on integration as well.

It took money out the black community because folks left their community to spend money in other people's communities under the false belief that the white version of the product they were purchasing was better.

Segregation is not necessary today but it goes to show you how good America has tamed us. We have to FORCE YOU nikkaS to spend money with each other by legally not allowing you to spend it with anyone else.

We had the highest percentage of children born WITHIN wedlock.

We had way more black millionaire entrepreneurs . (Marcus Garvey madam cj walker etc)

We had the negro league with millionaire black team owners.

And we gave all of that up to be underneath the coattails of white people :stopitslime:

That's why I always laugh when old heads talk about what they had to go through during the civil rights movement.
Like nikka stfu you made it worse for the future generations because you wanted to be accepted and integrated with white Devils :scust:
