In a lot of 70s movies, most of the action heroes and male sex symbols weren't as ripped as later periods. In 'The Mack' for instance, Goldie is a scrawny ass mofo but his bro is ripped as fukk, and yet Goldie is the one getting all the hoes, making $2000 bread a week

I also noticed in 'The Warriors' that pretty much all of the tough, crazy brehs were scrawny as fukk If the same movie was made in 2016 that definitely would not be the case

At what point did it become trendy to go to the gym and have a perfect physique?

By the 80s I feel like the pressure was there. Check out rambo, the van damme movies, arnold schwarzenegger etc

Well you have to take into account the fact that Americans kept getting fatter and fatter, so a muscular physique started standing out more and more.
