almost anyone could qualify as a plant under the old industry structure

any group that was ever manufactured any artist that was ever signed with a demo then "polished"

majority of old head artists went through talent showcases and had notable mentors who might have been artists themselves or were put together by producers like Organized Noize made Outkast.

it's not the same as the new age fake independent artists with an industry backing and some boosted up numbers. calling them plants wouldn't take shyt away from them like it would someone like a CJ or 69. Being a label made entity in the internet era vs when the industry was gatekept is not the same. nobody made inroads without backing back then.
