it's kind of a tricky answer. I was a huge Native Tongues fan from when they started with the Jungle Brothers, Latifah, and De la Soul. When Tribe came out in 90, I was a big an of theirs too. I was more into the pro black movement than anything, but I liked the Native Tongues. Tribe had a great run with their first 3 albums and their 3rd album(which is the favorite of many their fans) dropped on the same day as Wu. After MM, Tribe never had another great album again and released a very good album in BR&L and an extremely average album in TLM. So basically Tribe was untouchable from 90-around mid 94 and Wu had their big run from end of 93 until around mid 98. And this incudes solo joints as well. So I was definitely a bigger Wu fan. Plus Wu solo albums are better than Tribe's. And I loved Tip and Phife's debut albums. I actually liked Phife's more. Phife's solo is what I expected Tip's to sound like.

I didn't get into 'A Tribe Called Quest' until I got put onto them through some dude who loved what they would call "Conscience Rap".

That was like early 2000s, He had a lot of conscience stuff on the tape. I would smoke and just listen to a different vibe from the Raps I'm used too. It was all ill tracks like ATCQ, Talib, Mos, Common, J Dilla, Hi-Tek beats, Quasimoto, group home project, etc. I've since lost that tape but I recall all those songs and have them on some sort of playlist.

Wu is my choice. I got onto Wu a little late I was Mase/Badboy era fan ... My first foray into the Shaloin lol was definitely by Method Man.
