What’s funny is Black American was a disparaging term used by people who were like “I’m not black I’m [something] American, we have culture and you don’t”. Every time you heard the term it was said in scorn. People scrunched and contorted their face in an ugly way when it was said. We took the term for ourselves and said “bet”, because that’s how everyone knew how to differentiate us.

Now those same people are on some “aren’t we all technically Black Americans??” now. Yeah if you can get away with calling your parents Yankees and them accepting that, sure.
