Derrick Turner, 48, was arrested Wednesday in suburban Los Angeles and accused of running a drug operation in the city's Skid Row neighborhood.
Police in Los Angeles arrested an alleged drug kingpin whose operation received $600,000 in one-dollar bills while selling to an area of the city well-known for its homeless population.
Derrick Turner, 48, was taken into custody in the Cerritos neighborhood on Wednesday, and charged with three drug-related felonies.
“The fact it was $1 bills tells you a lot about his business on skid row,” LAPD Capt. Andrew Neiman told the Los Angeles Times.

Police said they found $1.8 million in raids, including $600,000 in dollar bills.
Turner was one of 16 people arrested during an operation against groups believed to sell drugs in the downtown area where many homeless people struggle with addiction.
Raids uncovered $1.8 million including the large number of dollar bills, 13 kilograms of cocaine, 22 pounds of methamphetamine and 20 pounds of heroin.

Turner's organization was believed to have operated in Skid Row, an area famous for its homeless population.
Police told KABC that they believed Turner to be armed with an AK-47.
However, the suspect ended up coming out of his suburban home within 15 minutes of the SWAT officers' arrival, and surrendered to cops while in his pajamas.
