If your popping in music by your 20s good for you....teens excellent. But damn...Im 31 and I feel like Ive started gaining fame/money/notoriety from music. Like some people's careers/success starts late. Its still a hobby to me but now its going beyond that. Ive kind of worked to establish myself behind the scenes but since this is the internet era Ive been forced to not play the background anymore. People want to see what you look like know about your history etc and now with social media I realize im not "unknown" anymore. I feel like the internet is more aware of my presence and background album wise now. Its interesting.

I now have a Discogs page so its like I feel :blessed: but now I feel kind of :francis:cause i really dont have that much to hide anymore. Its like people know of me but are starting to catch on to what I have been doing so I have to watch myself and what I say now on social media. I technically still have a day job cause I am a licensed insurance agent and Im under contract from my company and I make money there but I dont have to show up alot or do much. as long as I make rent and bills Im gucci but with my living situation and low rent i dont even have to work that hard at this job to even make even since its commisssion based and I make that and then some in one sale/account sold.

I feel like I might of fukked myself over but hey Im making money off of my music and getting to the point where I dont even have to do my day job anymore...and I did an interview with a music magazine late last year...already have some offers on the table. i have people send me their music demos and whatnot on twitter tumblr etc. Collaborations requestsm Im working on licensing my music now since its all copyrighted. Yeah now I handle all my booking requests myself and money.

I can lend advice out to anyone if neccessary.

I think it depends on the genre, your target audience. I'm 34 and I mainly play jazz and funk. Age ain't nothing but a number in my case. On the flip side, some 50 year old guy trying to rap would probably be a fail.

i guess it depends on where you are at too. If you're in a olace like nyc la atl theres competiton but also industry where you can connect with people...

if you're in a smaller city then its gonna be much harder to get exposure. or you have to.move to those three.

true I think it is target audience thing too. If youre going for that 18-34 demographic then you have alot of support and stuff and people to attract.

I do electronic music primarly. Techno. House. experimental type stuff. Ive been doing more club festival type material as of late. been trying to go for that international appeal especially with not having lyrics or phrases.

I get messages online about people stumbling upon my music all the time from like the EU and switzerland and Denmark and stuff.

I have record companies and DJs follow me on twitter too. And rappers. and on tumblr. some very well know names have cosigned me on twitter. Its cool and fun reallly. Especially being in NYC where all of these events are.

it seems rap money is elusive. serious money anyways. if you can make a living off rap your blessed seriously.

I agree, there are some people quietly eating very good off rap behind the scenes though. If I put forth more effort into it I could probably have a slice of that pie but I have a day job and a family and virtually no time to write or record.
