People say rapping is a young's man game and its harder for older cats to get into the game.

I personally feel like the ones who come in the game late in their 20's end up being somewhat better musicians over their career due to the life experience, maturity and work ethic than the ones who blow while they are still teenagers or barely turned 20 who have to try and carry themselves into their thirties.

Jay Z was 26 when he first dropped Reasonable Doubt, Kanye was 27 when he dropped College Dropout, Cudi was 25 when Man on The Moon dropped, J. Cole was 26 when Sideline Story finally debuted, Kendrick was 25 when GKMC was out and Drake dropped Take Care at 25. Rick Ross was in his late 20s and Eminem was 27 when he practically blew up with his debut album.

A lot of them put out their best tracks when they are in their thirties. Ala the Blue Print, The Black Album, My Name Is My Name, Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Be,The Eminem show, etc.

Rap is still a relatively young music field and we have a lot of old rappers in their forties now like Common, P Diddy, Jay Z, Eminem, RZA, Snoop Dogg, Raekwon, etc. A lot of them still have relevant careers.

rite now? probably around 26/27.

Back in the day most dudes came out when they were like 19-22 but they weren't always the most business savvy.

most of the guys you see on forbes list Had their first albums in their mid-late twenties...

Really it depends on what you say, if a young guy has something to say that can touch old and young peoples ears like one love by nas than its al good in my books

some young rappers these days dont have a lot to say, they can rap but for me i need something to grab on to, like jay z being 26 when RD came out he had a lot to say compared to some of the stuff he was saying years before that.

i dunno, maybe as you get older you have a lot more to say, why would i listen to a kid talk about taxes if he knows nothing about it opposed to someone whos older and is living that tax life? :manny:

In other fields if music like Jazz, Rock, even classical, musicians would typically hit their musical Magnum Opus in their 40s or even 50s or near the tail end of career ala Led Zeppelin with Achilles Last Stand or Miles Davis bytches Brew.

Even Beethoven didn't have the famous 9th Symphony until he composed it as 54.

I feel like the older guys who come into the game rapping on a professional level do better when they are older because they are much more mature in their ability to handle the business side of their music career.

Therefore are less prone to getting fukked over by record companies than some fresh faced kid who is 19, has musical talent but no business/professional skills whatsoever.

It seems like we are going throwing an awkward growing phase of hip hop trying to figure out what it means to be rapping in your 40s and what exactly should the music sound like. It started as a young man's game with a ton of dancing but evolved to something much different today.

Age is irrelevant in any creative field.

Just a matter of having the drive to keep going. That's where fatigue happens.

I feel like this is what happened to Big Sean. He can obviously rap but he seems like he has nothing important to rap about because he blew up when he was so young and doesn't seem to have much life experience outside of the music scene to draw upon. Kanye scooped him up right after high school.
:ehh:

Guys like Drake, Jay Z, J Cole, Eminem, Kendrick, Common, Kid Cudi, Kanye, etc all had a life outside of the music scene during those hustling days where they weren't fresh out of school but struggling in a 9 to 5 while perfecting their craft until their music career got off the ground.
