What are bare minimum recipes everyone should be able to cook?

You should be able to feed and sustain yourself no matter who you are.
That looks different for certain people.
I think at a minimum you should know how to make some of the foods you grew up with.
For me I can make grits, eggs, Catfish, chicken, mac & cheese, red beans and rice, collard greens, black eyed peas etc.

I used to think this was a reasonable thing to expect of people, but jesus christ people are stupid.
Ex-girlfriend with two kids...
I was making dinner one day and asked her to boil some potatoes to help me out.
She said, "How much water should I use?"
I said, "About half a pot full."
She said, "Okay, what do I do then?"
I said, "Add some salt and put the potatoes in when the water starts boiling."

She said (and I will never forget this), "How will I know when it's boiling?"

Do ya'll have any memories where you're not sure if the shyt really happened or if it happened in a dream?
That's kinda what this is for me.
I'm 90% sure it really happened, 10% of me thinks it might have been a dream that I'm remembering as reality.
