Healthcare is such a broad field. Not sure if i wanna go the IT route or the medical route or the public health route. Dietitian is an option- but the pay seems low. Pharmaceutical sales- lots of travel. Pa school- could be an option but not sure I wanna be a doctor. I want a job that offers independence, growth and high pay. Don't wanna be micromanaged.

Health science with a Health IT certification. Started off as a bio major so I have some classes under my belt but the organic chemistry and Physics I didn't do well in.
trust me op i understand. took me 7 years to earn a bio degree because i had to retake organic, physics, and a few other prereqs. salute for finishing. i used to be seriously depressed for not getting into med school but recently took a prereq course and and planning to apply to pt school later in the year. currently working in an unrelated field so i dont have the answers myself but alot of people iv talked to have said if u want to make good money in the healthcare field, administration, physicians assistant, or even certain tech jobs pay very well. Since you have experience in IT already look into bioinformatics. if my pt plan falls thru that where il be putting my energy. pays very well and the careers are on the rise

Depending on what area of the country you're in you may want to look into getting into Risk Adjustment/Revenue Cycle Management. If you're in a busy metro area with a lot of Medicaid Physicians it can be a pretty profitable gig with very little $ up front. Look into AAPC Medical coding certs.

Didn't know there was such thing as a one year masters. The closest thing I can think of is doing an online program that allows you to move at your own pace. With that you can take as many classes as you want and finish them as fast as you want. I know someone who finished a master's through Western Governors University in 16 months. They probably could have finished it sooner had they not been working.

I've been looking into medical coding since december. Some colleges offer course and others have online programs. If im new to the topic should take traditional college classes or online training?

Depends on what type of learner you are. If you have a modest bio/anatomy background and you're very disciplined it would be ok to do it online. But the tests for the cert are intense and very, very thorough. If you are working and have a life and doing this on the side I would recommend making time for a classroom setting.
Coding can largely be done remote too if you have some experience. Similar to Medical transcription services, it can be a really good way to make easy money on your own time at home. In lieu of driving Uber or whatever after your day gig like some do.

Thanks for the reply. Im about 10 yrs removed from school so i think i'll go the class boot camp route. The AAPC offer a 12 week courses so ill look into that since its cheaper than re enrolling back into school

A lot of non clinical hospital/healthcare jobs ask for an IT related degree or nursing. Some even take engineering. I've worked in healthcare for over ten years and don't have a clinical background.

Also for instance, my department justed hired a new admin assistant who has her MHA (master's in health Administration). It seems she's overqualified for that job, but my coworkers speculate she might be a new grad since it seems prior experience trumps most things on this industry.

Good choice breh. Yes the buy-in is relatively low and even if you decide not to just be a coder strictly its a perfect addition to a young person's CV. Maybe look into learning how to play around with Microsoft SQL as well.
Good luck
