Not entirely true. The part of the isles the Anglos came from greatly influenced the resulting American accent. The various southern accents have kept more in common with the various British accents than any other part of the U.S.

The southern accent comes from the British accent tho. I actually watched a YouTube video of a person who studied linguistics break it down.


They don’t sound nothing alike today and you even have people in the UK themselves who look at southerners in America as backwards but both their accents are actually related lol

btw that guy is right. NYC does not have Borough accents but it’s many accents are actually separated by immigrant groups. I’ve said this before but I can point out an African American New Yorker vs Caribbean/West African American New Yorker.
