I went to high school w/ dude before he transferred schools after our freshman year. He started posting freestyles on fb and whatnot and I took a liking to his stuff.

Around the time he started rapping I also started producing as a side hobby and me an him would trade advice and whatnot.

Yesterday he posted something on his page asking for ppl to manage him and I thought :leon: hey why not and shyt him a message.

Now Im not gonna be his fulltime manager (I think he got somebody else w/ more exp to do that but I am gonna be helping him out especially with production, possibly beats of my own but Im more interested in executive producing like diddy :takedat:)

My question is what are some things I should do/consider in this role (fundraising, budgeting, promotion, performances, etc). Right now my MAIN FOCUS is tryna get the music right (obvious nothing we can do w/o good music). I can possibly get him some studio time for the low as well through a family connect of mine.

One thing in particular Im supposed to be doing currently is trying to get a website made. So anybody know where I can look to get a simple artist site made (booking info, contact, social networks, music, etc) for the low. (Im about to post an ad on odesk and elance and possibly outsource it).

I know some of y'all on here are artists yourselves and managers, A&R's, etc so dont be stingy with the info:birdman:

I'll pm u, aint really tryna turn the thread into discussions on the music quality, save that for later:youngsabo:

I'd say one of the first steps is to promote that man's music. What you might feel is an artists not up to your standards right now, others might see an artist progressing organically if he keeps motivated in improving in is craft, and making better and better music. It's a lot of horrible nikkas got their music out, don't let hating nikkas from making you hesitate putting yours and your homies out. :manny:

find a way to lose your pride. you can't be a manager and have that macho manly pride, that job requires UNREAL levels of butt kissing and acceptance of disrespectful rejection. unless you're a jimmy henchman type manager, haa, then its different of course.

Here's what you do bruh. Dont be a manager. Foucus on being a producer, let ya mans focus on being a rapper n make a team together. Over time if ya shyt is nice, the bigs wigs will come knocking. The net is crawling with undercover A&Rs , Managers, n etc.

Even the Coli itself, I aint gon say the nikka name, but there is a poster here who is connected to the online marketing director of Def Jam :pachaha:

It aint me, in case you wonderin :smugfavre:

Thats true, Im not even sure he wants to put everything out there until we got everything situated first (social networks, contact info, website, etc). Also this thread was more of a focus on me wanting to learn how to do well in my role.

I've been thinking about this as well, right now everything is done just on a we're looking out for each other but that's a very slippery slope and never seems to end well (Fendi/Nikki comes to mind). When it comes time for that the paper work going come out lol.

Yea man the plan for me was to never try and be like a real "manager" just help out in some managerial type roles if possible. The main thing I just wanna do is make sure we're making dope music (whether its something I produced or not).

And yea I know its nikkas on here thats connected. One here works for BET I think.
