It doesn't make sense to me that in the 21st century there are still cities out here without underground power. Storm comes down: power outage. Someone backs up into a power pole and nocks it down: Power outage. Debris gets tangled in the lines and snaps them: power outage.

Power line comes down, wire exposed and touches water? nearby animals and people are in danger.

I don't even know if cost can really be an argument against under ground power because doesn't it cost MORE to fix that shyt every time it comes down than to just install the power underground and be done with it.

There are none. It's what they have in the civilized world :yeshrug:

Cost, cost, cost.

My job has mentioned underground power/network lines and a generator... none of it happened cause it cost too much...

But my boss had the audacity to ask about a UPS big enough to last 24 hours:snoop:

Not to mention the odds of them being accidentally cut are likely too, which increases cost to provide it.

Easy.

You would only be able to charge for putting it in the ground and then minimal repairs and maintenance. Above ground lines need repair after damn near every storm. It’s a hustle.

the coli.com

where the power company makes money from repairing their infrastructure instead of the power they deliver. i'm sure they eat off that downtime

But somehow some company is able to come in and bury some fiber optic cable every couple months :patrice:

There has to be more to it than cost.
cost and inconvenience. it's a lot of work and the people who want it would be mad at the work itself eventually.

they just do it on new zoned building areas but a lot of the above ground lines in my city are ancient and they need to redo the oldest and most dense parts of the city

Imagine the number of power lines vs fiber optic lines.

And Fios has never been available anywhere I lived because the process is so slow.

I understand those tall scare crow poles that cross the country. I'm talking locally where they have replaced all the wooden poles with high metal ones, while at the same time across the street Fios or whatever are burying new fiber optic cables
