The "I Got 5 On It" thread got me thinking about putting a playlist together of Bay Area artists.
What are some of the Bay's Best? The Jacka? Clyde Carson? IAMSU/HBK Gang? Problem? Roach Gigz?

your stars are but dust on my shoes
jacka was so raw back in the day, but he's aged so damn much. It's crazy to hear him age in between "The Jacka of Mob Figaz," "The Jack Artist," "Tear Gas," to what he sounds like today. I always kinda felt a little bad for him too, cause he's always talking about how he doesn't really make much rap money, and he always thought he was gonna cake off the music lol. But yeah, legend, but he's fallen off.

A lot of the street artists have peaked tbh, and even regressed a bit. Hardcore HD fans will swear by his last couple albums, but the features are weak, and H just sounds unmotivated now a days... he's released so much music that you kinda have to expect it though.

J. Stalin never really lived up to his potential.

Lil Blood... lol, he's never had a verse I liked, but he's out in the scene doing his thing, definitely not blowing up or anything.

Shady Nate was really one of my favorites, man. He had talent, but he had a few albums that really put me off his music all together. Gasman Unleashed, and Still Based On A True Story were my tapes.

Joe Blow was another one that was raw as hell. You Should Be Paying Me is a classic, he could get real nice with his writing from time to time. He too has begun to regress, but it hasn't been as dramatic yet. I attribute a lot of his slowing down to just being bored with rap/ rapping about the same shyt over the same type of production, as well as a lean habit. The last one is pure speculation, but a lot of these bay dudes mess with lean heavy. I've checked a few of his latest albums, and they've got some nice cuts on them, but they can drag on, especially if you're not familiar with or particularly enjoy the mob sound. shyt is bay area music, which means if you ain't with it, there isn't any pandering to outsiders.

Philthy Rich has gotten a lot of looks recently cause Marshawn Lynch was dancing to his song "Ready 2 Ride" after winning the SB. Anyone who lives in the bay ,and knows about the music, has heard the song already (my friend who played football in '12 told me they used to play it in the locker room all the time lol). Philthy has always made those type of slaps, and there's a certain ambition you hear in his music that you don't often get with these other dudes. Philthy gets made fun of cause he's, as Kafani said, a verse lick, which is a diss that is due to the fact that Philthy has collabo'd with hella different industry dudes to almost no buzz at all. He's gotten verses from Keef, Waka, Jim Jones, and hella others that i can't remember atm. I don't know where Philthy is gonna take his career, but I don't think he'll go too far nationally.

The artists that will buzz are undoubtedly HBK Gang, and Sage the Gemini right now. That doesn't mean they're the best from the bay, just the catchiest though. People need to check out Davinci from San Francisco, cause the label hes at right now (SWTBRDS) got two of the best kept secret producers atm in Al Jieh and Ammbush. Check out "The MOEna Lisa," very solid project, underrated as fukk imo. He made a complete project, enjoyable as hell.

100s as I have mentioned got hella love for his debut mixtape "Ice Cold Perm," which is a concept type album where he just raps that pimp shyt over production from Joe Wax. Definitely one of my favorite tapes when it dropped... he's kept a fairly low key profile though, but he does seem to have connects to the hipster blogosphere as well as ASAP Yams' camp.

Droop-E is E-40's son, and he's been around for a minute, but he's only 25. He dropped an EP last year that was real nice, "Hungry and Humble." He's talented with the production, and he's a pretty cool rapper too. Got the feature with Kendrick on his EP, although it was an older song.

Main Attrakionz is a duo out of Oakland that was pretty much one of the first few internet artists that popped off back when the blogs were influencing the rap scene a bit. You know, the class of Odd Future, Spaceghostpurrp, ASAP Rocky etc. The do the cloud rap thing, which is basically atmospheric production, a sound that has been around, but they're widely seen as the ones that really made it a subgenre; people love to say otherwise, but it's really a pointless thing to argue about. Anyways, you can tell they're hood dudes, not necessarily connected like that, but they just kinda go over these atmospheric beats while rapping about street struggles. They're a bit tough to get into if you want more straightforward artists, but they continue to get love.
