Above the fray.
And how many such cities are in the United States?
Major international airport(s)
5 star hotels
World famous tourist site(s)
Top museum(s)
Major events & venues (arts, sports, cultural)
Top restaurants

Basically I see it as a distinct place that gives people in other countries a reason to come to your city, and that it stacks up favorably against any other place.

I say about 8 in USA

NYC, LA, CHI, NO, MIA, MEM, BOS off the top

Depends on the size of It's slums..poverty makes a city ugly no matter how the few rich barricade themselves off.

....
NYC
LA
Chicago
Miami
Houston
Seattle
San Francisco

Are probably the only places in the US all consider world class. The qualities of a world class city are probably physical size, population size, strong tourism, job market, hosts alot of events, famous landmarks.
DC?
Philly?
Atlanta?
In about 10 years - Orlando, Charlotte?

2 things. Infrastructure and a financial hub with multiple banks/hedge funds . If multiple banks don't cosign you, then you aren't world class.

Tourism is an unreliable indicator because backwards cities like New Orleans or Orlando make the cut. When in truth, these cities are depressing and underwhelming once you drive 10miles outside the city centers.

You lying to yourself if you think either of these places are world class since they would have to compete with NYC or London or Tokyo or Moscow or Singapore . They aren't even in the same neighborhood. Hell, even Vegas isn't competitive.

Goatganda the pearl of Africa
5 Star hotels
Michelin restaurants
Excellent transit system (Can get from the airport to the city without having to use an uber or taxi)
Top companies have their hq there
Embassies are located there
Top tourist destination with iconic buildings
Major airport that flies to international destinations

Paying for that tourist hop on hop off red bus is actually worth it. Out of all my travels was only worth it in NYC, Dallas the goat american city, London and dubai
