Eduardo Galeano's Open Veins of Latin America.
Wasn't a huge fan of this book. I know next to nothing about South America, especially past the 18th century so I learned a lot in that regard, but I found it a struggle to get through. It didn't help that about halfway through I read about the author "renouncing" it, but it didnt get into specifics into exactly what he was renouncing in it. Either way, maybe it was just the jumping around from nation to nation which was difficult because I didn't go in with any general knowledge. Not a bad book by any means, but probably not the first book you should read on Latin American history.
Just started Half of a Yellow Sun. Only 100 pages in but there are already a lot of similar themes as in Galeano's book.
