This is kind off a spin off from the recent charter school thread I made. I'm not trying to turn this into another debate on charters but one of the main criticisms in that thread was that charter schools kick out kids at higher rates than regular public schools. But is that necessarily a "bad" thing? For the sake of this thread it's about K-12 education in general .

My question is

What are your thoughts on school expulsions in general? For example Do you believe it's overused or underused? Is more oversight needed?

I think the idea is pretty stupid, and should only be looked at as an option if someone commits some type of crime. But expulsion and getting kicked out are all part of the systematic criminalization of our psyche. I dont even need to look at numbers to know it must happen disproportionately to a certain emographic.

I used to get in trouble relatively often in middle school. They would give you in school suspension, so you were in school but couldnt go to class. Seems like society's first move is always to punish you for not taking your education seriously by taking your education away from you.

This society has no interest in actually educating people.

Salecia Johnson
ATLANTA (CBS46) -
Salecia Johnson, 6, says she can't sleep because of what happened at her school last week in Milledgeville, Georgia.

"They hurt me. They jerked my hands real fast," said Johnson.

Police said the kindergartner was arrested and taken to police headquarters after she became a threat to herself and others at Creekside Elementary School by crying, breaking glass and kicking over a shelf that hurt the school's principal.

"Every time she sees a police officer she thinks they are coming to get her," said Earnest Johnson, Salecia's father.

At a news conference on Friday in Atlanta, Salecia's family and supporters spoke out about what they call an injustice.

"We are not condoning bad behavior, but it baffles me how a child can get put in handcuffs and sent to an adult jail where she was detained for about an hour," said Marcus Coleman, with the National Action Network.

But police said Johnson was never placed behind bars and they say the officer followed proper procedures.

Still, Johnson's family and supporters said police and school policies need to be changed.

"Yes, she was in the squad room with other officers and it appeared that once common sense settled in, they tried to rectify their wrongs by dropping the charges," said Coleman. "We just want to make sure the initial confrontation doesn't happen to another child."

What do you suppose they do for constant trouble makers then?

lol getting ISS used to be the shyt
Lmao, I'd be posted in there. Once I had ISS, brought some wine (all I could find) in a water bottle, drank that then went to ISS. I swear on my way there I was tilting and security was looking at me funny for a second, but carried on their duties
