Its a depressing reality that many of us are underrepresented in the STEM fields. Several years from now automation will render a certain segment of the population irrelevant. And unfortunately I am seeing more and more of young blacks being sucked into that segment because of a lack of skills and education. Aside from that, many young blacks who do go for the higher education are not taking up STEM fields. Many take up studies that often do not require advanced technical knowledge and may not equate to a well paying job.
The math and sciences seem to be neglected by a lot of our people. Why do you guys think this is? Also what can be done to inspire young black children to embrace science and math and develop an appreciation for it? I think it is imperative that we nuture the next generation to have an appreciation for abstract thinking. A huge change is approaching and it is imperative that we as a people prepare ourselves for it.

The belief in black inferiority is why a lot of black people don't aspire to enter the stem fields. With no one but your mother telling you, you can be anything its discouraging. It all starts with teachers and the tearing down of any anti-intellectual attitudes.
