What are your thoughts on the idea of having class or being classy?

Do you think it's important why or why not?

Let's talk about it.

It's complicated to describe but my initial thought is that it's about having discretion.

Certain things should be handled or said or done at a certain time.
That's not the complete definition of it, but in my mind that's my first thought.

Typically when someone is said to have no class, they're violating 1 of those items.

Like a nikka who will sag his ass in front of his grandparents has no class.

A dude who will bring his thotiana girlfriend around his family has no class.

A dude who will leave a pregnant woman has no class

Classy is being a decent human being, not having fancy shyt and eating at fancy restaurants.

My dumb ass sister in law thinks she’s classy because she has LV bags and eats at 5 star restaurants but she has no friends.

To me class or classy. its simply a person that doesn't need to wear their entire identity on their sleeve.
They are confident in who they are and what they represent without the need for external validation.

Classless people tend to value external validation heavily and make every aspect of their being an attempt to garner attention
they Dress in way that tells people "hey look at me!" Behave in way that tells people "Hey look at me!" They need their opinions from the most minor innocuous thoughts to their firmest heart felt beliefs heard at all times

These above are not really examples of class, class can be divided into multiple categories along racial/cultural/even regional lines, but class is fundamentally about money/power/assets.

America essentially hard sells everyone that there is no such thing as class in America, and there 100% is. It's one of those things that is hard to see from your individual perspective in life, how firmly entrenched it is. It's not about conspiracies about elites, but if you look at where most of our business/political leaders come from, the answer is right there. A very very different class of people.

Class is often signaled by things like clothes, where you went to school, cars, shoes, vacation places, the cars we drive, the music we listen to, the movies we watch. It's also given away by our tells, which signal where and how we were raised, for instance, if you heard me speak, ungaurded, you can hear the regional Southern Cali in my voice, and my inflection, my use of certain slang terms, my tendency to lapse into certain "street" slang when angry or excited. My use of profanity. I can control a lot of that, but not all the time. 5 minute convo with me, will reveal I did not go to Harvard or attend prep school, even if those words are never directly said.

You can learn class, and learn to emulate higher class people, as I have done, and many do, as they make their way into lets say middle and upper management, you learn to class signal, consciously and unconsciously but you will rarely really fool those at the highest levels.

The two are often kind of conflated. Not sure about his intent, but the responses are all telling. Trump is exactly the kind of class he is from and born into. It's not simply about wealth, but about what KIND money and where it's from.

Our idea about what is "classy" and what is not, comes from long historical views about wealth and power and money.

So you are saying a penniless person with no assets cannot carry themselves with class? they are simply born with it or not?

Depends on the background of the penniless person.

Is he penniless because he's the black sheep of a long time wealthy family in Vermont or Manhattan and he lost his access to the trust?

Or is he penniless because his family owned a small auto repair shop in Lewiston, which went under during the Recession, and has been struggling to find steady employment since?

No one is born with the behavior, but they are indoctrinated.

Class to me is about respecting yourself and others as much as the situation affords.

Not littering is classy.

I got a couple of neighborhood homies that will straight up just throw their trash out of a moving car window. :scust:

There's too many elements but here's an outsized one, the ability to be comfortable in (almost) any situation.

You can talk to senators and to the wait staff. Which sounds nice, and I suppose is, kinda, but the idea is that you are so comfortable, so self assured, self possessed, that you simply take that with you everywhere you go.

think of someone like Kendall Roy who barely changed anything conversationally, or otherwise talking to "townie tweakers" or that server, vs a hedge fund titan.
