What do you think of the current "short project" trend?

This isn't just about GOOD Music, as I've noticed it alot elsewhere for awhile. I like it. I get that it was cool to have a CD of 18 tracks with intros, outros, skits, and go on that hour long journey. I get that it was cool when someone did a concept album that needed that many tracks. But let's be real, that was and still is a rare occurrence.

I think for the artist, it's easier for an artist to hone his artistry on a few songs, and focus on making them gems. There's also more cohesiveness, because sometimes albums get recorded over multiple "eras" of an artist, because of label issues, or he just lazy, and it comes out not meshing well.

For the fans, we get music more often (assuming someone would opt to do 2 EPs and release them in the same amount of time it would take him to release 1 LP). We most likely avoid situations where the artist thinks his shyt is out of date because he been working on it for so long, and scraps the album altogether to start over.

im used to the old format... long projecs, lots of songs, big gap between every rollout.
but got to say the short projects make more sense today with the digital era...

Don't like it, at least if someone put 18 songs out on an album you may get 12 dope ones if they are good, if it's 7 you may be getting 2 that are, much less dope music. In theory it could work if all tracks were great but most can't do that.

I agree with this!

Always thought 12 joints was the perfect length. Anything longer starts running the risk of overstaying its welcome & getting boring. Anything less than 12 seems to feel quickly thrown together, incomplete & cheap (with some notable exceptions).
