I ask this to the esteemed readers of the coli as my 32nd birthday approaches on monday.
Aside from work, trying to keep rent and bills paid, working on side projects, my life is pretty laid back. I got friends all over NYC. I haven't really been going out to bars of clubs or concerts. I've just been chilling with good friends of mine on the block while talking about life.
And I skateboard. Yes. At almost 32 years of age, I am still an active skateboarder (mostly on the weekends and after work). I am probably a better skater now in my 30s than I was when I was in my teens and even my 20s.
Does act you age mean you have to reach a certain number of goals and achivements and dress up nice all the time? Does act your age mean stop using profanity and start using more flowerly words and collegiate speak? Or does act your age mean...be yourself?
If so...I am a licensed insurance agent in NY state. Worked for a firm on walll street, in the process of working at another firm in Bensonhurst. THat's technically my "profession". I rarely talk about it cause I really don't enjoy it that much. But it makes money that I can put into my business which was a dream since I had since high school.
Does act your age mean you have to be married and have kids at a certain time?
I've just really feel I've been able to connect with myself over the past 8 years....and personally I don't want to be in a long term relationship at this point in time. LAst time I was hot and heavy with a woman it was in 2008 for 6 months. And coming from a family who was fairly well to do and gave me and my siblings the best of education and opportunities...I couldn't bring kids into the world without establishing myself financially so they could have the same benefits and opportunities my parents afforded us. I swear, some people just want kids so they can show them off on the gram, twitter, or facebook....nah, I couldn't be one of those people. My mom and dad taught us and inspired us to be the best by example, I could only want my own children to the be the best.
SO, because I like to listen to Trap and Drill and Juke and EDM and music made by teenagers I'm somehow not "acting my age"? I love music....it keeps me going, the youth of the world continue to inspire me and I hope to inspire them.
I might be a 32 year old man that likes to ride a skateboard and has since the age of 5, but the last thing you could ever call me is immature, uncalculated, unprofessional, and uniformative.
AS time goes on, what we consider as "norms" with age will just change. We we're and are a prettty young generation that made a huge impact that still can be felt to this day no matter how much you think about it. I have no problem with adults feeling free to connect with their inner children and remember the people who they once were in order to traverse the future with no fear.
THANKS FOR READING.
