Are we so obsessed with lyrics that we missed half of the art of hip hop - the music?

I've been thinking about this for a while and its really hard to articulate so I thought I would put it out there so that hopefully someone can help me put it into words.

I started thinking about the thread topic while listening to a track with a horror movie soundtrack in the background and it made me think about the fact that youth and inner city living is almost like a horror movie. It's tragic and at times scary. I thought about the fact that the music articulates this fact even if the lyrics do not.

It made me think back at all of the eras of the genre. To name just a couple - the soul resurgence of the 2000, which was comforting, which went against the uncertainty of the times. Then it was the happy soul and disco throwback music of the late 90's that caused us to think happy thoughts and want to dance even though times were crazy. It was the guitar strums and sparse beats of many songs of the mid 90's that made us feel tough on one hand and the G Funk of the mid nineties that made us feel invincible. Then its the hard drums of the very early 90's that went along with a pro black resurgence.

Before that it was a mix of many different beats of the 80's that suited an eclectic do what you want era.

It seems as if the music has spoken just as loudly as the lyrics yet I have yet to come across some classification on hip hop music and it's deeper meaning that is universal.

What do the beats mean in each song ?

This is especially important to consider in an era where there are complaints about sub par lyrics.

Sites like rap genius imo miss half the point by not describing and explaining the music.

Does anyone feel me and can anyone elaborate and or clarify what I'm saying

This is a rough draft of what I hope will be something sensible that we can reflect on.

They say that the first draft is shyt so bear with me as I try to flesh this out.
