What exactly is the argument for Phil Jackson being a better coach than Pop?

Don't really think there's much of a difference. I think both coaches have benefitted from their GM's putting the right pieces around them at the right time.

Truth be told, I'm not 100% sure a ringless Shaq or ringless Kobe could have taken much of Popovich yelling at them in front of national TV if he had yet to coach a championship team.

I'm sure there are probably things that David Robinson would've found too "out there" or gimmicky that Phil Jackson did as well, nor would appreciate some of the antagonizing remarks he can make toward his players. Phil Jackson would downplay your accomplishments on the court from time-to-time or throw some salt on the wound when you play badly as a joke and I could see that really pissing of David Robinson.

I don't think Mike, Shaq or Kobe could deal with Pops coaching style honestly. Phil and Pop were both lucky as shyt

I've long said I think Pop is better than Phil mainly because Pop was more willing to adjust his system to the roster he had. He went from completely slowing it down to play a half court post based offense to a complete fast tempo motion offense to now mixing that with isolations for Kawhi and Lamarcus. I know everybody gives D'antoni credit for revolutionizing offense but Pop with the Spurs contributed just as much in my opinion with what he did the two years he made the finals against the Heat. I thought Phil left some titles on the table by still trying to force the Lakers to run the triangle instead of adjusting with the times and adjusting with the roster he was working with.

Having arguably The Best Player of All Time, his son, and the most dominant big man of our generation running his offensive sets?

At this point, only the c00ns and Toms would think any coach in basketball history is better than Pop

Both are excellent. People always focus on the stars they have coached, but I like to zero in on the guys who became notable role players under them. Both are excellent at defining roles for guys and having them ready to step up and make winning plays.

Ray Allen- 3 pointer to tie-Game 6 to close out 4-2-Offensive rebound-6 seconds left in the game

People seem to disregard that level of an epic choke job compared to the GREATEST choke job by the Warriors.

With the way the Phil has ran the Knicks, it's looking more like Phil just happened to be at the right place at the right time...

I mean...who would you want coaching your team right now? Pop or Phil?

shyt who would you want running your basketball operations? Pop or Phil?

People forget in ADDITION to being the coach Pop has been the president of basketball operations forever...

Phil lakers are 4-1 against pop Spurs

From 2000-2010. The lakers won 5 rings, and we whooped the Spurs routinely to get there. Spurs have 3 rings and only beat the lakers once with phill as a coach.

Phil took his teams to the finals 3 straight finals 4 times 1991-1993. 1996-1999. 2000-2002. 2008-2010. Pop got to two finals straight only in 2013/2014. He never even went back to back in wins. Phil could have had 4 three peats if the lakers beat the Celtics in 2008.

Phil has 3 3 peats with two separate teams and neither Jordan and Shaq won shyt till he got there. The bulls won only 2 years into Phil coaching.
Jackson and the Bulls made the playoffs every year, and failed to win the title only three times. Michael Jordan's first retirement marked the end of the first "three-peat", and although Jordan returned just before the 1995 playoffs, it was not enough to prevent a playoff elimination by the Orlando Magic.
It was a failure for him to not even make 4 peat

The lakers? Phil won a ring his first season with them and again, he went to 3 straight finals with them twice

Jackson took over a talented Lakers team and immediately produced results as he did in Chicago. In his first year in L.A., the Lakers went 67–15 during the regular season to top the league. Reaching the conference finals, they dispatched the Blazers in a tough seven-game series and then won the 2000 Finals beating the Indiana Pacers

Phil Jackson teams dominated the 90s and then the 2000s. 6 final appearances in the 90s and 7 in the 00s. Even when Jordan retired, Phil bulls were still contenders.

Long story short, idk why this is even a discussion. Pop is great. He's definitely doing better than Phil now and it's nothing wrong with personally liking pops coaching more than his, but fact for fact, he ain't even 1/5 of Phil. Phil resume is entirely too fukking long and his lakers sonned the Spurs head to head last decade.
Phil has been hot ass with the Knicks, but lets be real not even Allah can save the Knicks organization.

Pop would not have lost in 5 to the pistons in '04, he proved it by beating them the next year's finals.

Yeah, that would have never happened with Phil coaching.
