Is it

A. Being one of the best at your position

Or

B. Being one of the best period

Or

C. Being a vital part to the team's success

The necessity of a cap floor, and according to a set of rules like staying with the team that drafts you, being an all star, being on the all NBA team and number of years in the league

Philly bouls, Trust the Process
pretty sure each team has to spend a certain amount because of the 51/49 revenue split
Nope, the "penalty" for not reaching the floor is just paying the amount that you need to make up to all the players on the team. It's basically just giving the guys on your team a bonus. That's not an actual penalty in reality, you're not being hurt by it in any way.

But why do that when you can spend the money on an extra player?

I don't think half the coli understands the intricacies of the NBA salary structure on a basic level

this thread should be great

it's just gonna be another Otto Porter discussion so I'll say this here

A) he has a lesser max then other players, it's half as much as a guy like Steph's max because of his tenure

b) the wizards have no other way to add real impact talent at this point, if they want John wall to commit they have to commit to Porter as well

C) because he's prolly worth it. I know this is a shock to some people, but he has very tangible skills that are important on a basketball court other then scoring. his ability to shoot and space as an extremely dangerous 3 point shooter is crucial to walls success. he's also a versitile defender who is athletic enough to hang with anyone. some guys take longer to develop, and the wizards patience with him payed off huge last year.

him for 25m a year in the new salary structure is not a mozgov, Deng, Noah level catostrophy like people are making it out to be. There is upside to this. He is young. He can get better. He doesn't need to be a 20ppg scorer to be worth that amount.

People also just confused about the bubble that just came with the cap increase. time for you fukkin casuals to adapt

Correct. The only real penalty is that if they ever go back to renegotiating in the CBA you have no right to talk because you didn't put money into the team, at least that's how it's perceived.
