Its a tough situation. And yea its not easy beign black. But its not much easier being poor + white either. The game has changed for 99% of Americans over the last 2-3 decades in a very shytty way.
But as far as black youths, a lot of it comes back to not even knowing they have options. Like I bet those GBE dudes would trade all that banging shyt in for a 50-60K/yr job and peace of mind. Lot of these kids are running around crazy for no other reason than not knowing any better.

i think we need to be aware of what it is that we consume.

i'm not talking about biological information that we consume and digest for sustenance, but consuming and digesting information that is incorporeal - being careful of what it is that we learn and hold as "truth."
i think technology helps in regard to disseminating not only information for our benefit, but misinformation and disinformation to our hindrance.
information like memes, once it is in one's mind, has potential to replicate and be passed on like a virus or in other words, to be a "mind virus."
there are lots of thought programming and they come in different forms. morality and values come in different packaging through schools of thought, generally speaking.
i think community, brotherhood and humanity are sometimes lost through different interpretations of information such as freedom, democracy or even liberty and individuality.
it's very important to be able to discern the information that we take in.
one of the reasons we're having the problems that we're having is the heavy doses of programming to which we're introduced.
there's a battle for our minds and the biggest weapon is information.
the entertainment industry (media: television,radio, internet, music, film, literature, fashion) has a much bigger role and impact in teaching our children how "to be," what to think and how they should view themselves in their environment.
these lessons they learn come in delightful adornment; individuality, instant gratification, materialism are all too often expressed more than community, brotherhood, humanity and first and foremost, God (case in point, pay attention to how this word now has a negative connotation).
a young girl learns to be like lady gaga and how to shake her ass because that is what it means to be a free and liberated woman that is expressing her individuality.
