Other females held her back. She was too good, so most females only threw subliminals at her while pretending to be above her. The females who did take her on instead of throwing subliminals were other hood chicks instead of chicks with pop appeal.

By the time the 90s hit, even MC Lyte was moving away from the tomboy shyt into trying to be pretty. She wasn't dropping the militant pro-black rhymes which were starting to get popular. She wasn't New Jack. She wasn't En Vogue. She didn't look like Salt, Pepa.

She just got hit by so much back then, I think she lost if for wanting to make music. And her writers had a lot of bad shyt happen to them personally and professionally too. So it was tough for her during that time when Lyte, Latifah, Yo-Yo and even Nikki D started coming up. The whole lying about the education thing just made it worse.
