"We are the Fury"
Mettenberger put up some strong numbers and Tennessee went 1-5 last year with games decided by 7 or fewer points (1). Down the stretch Mettenberger had a 1:1 touchdown to interception ration and his adjusted yards per attempt was 7.0, both strong enough numbers to warrant starting in his 2nd year. In his only game against them, Mettenberger bombarded the Steelers for 263 yards, 2 TDs and one INT. Although Tennessee ultimately lost game, Mettenberger performed well. He concluded his rookie season with a decet 83.4 rookie QB rating.
If Mariota can't emulate or better this rating, despite better weapons, should he start over Mettenberger? It will take a herculean effort from Mariota to do better than a 7.0+ yards per attempt and 83.4 rookie qb rating. But given how talented and fast everyone says Mariota is, at least relative to stone foot Mettenberger, besting the latter should be easy.
