Like i've said b4. Sure...the South connected with the West Coast more so than NYC in the 90's b/c the cultures were so similar. Down South relating to stoops, high rises, subways and etc wasn't something easily realized...but the vivid stories of it was alluring so it was tuned in. Now when Cali came and it showed the weather, the hanging out yards, cruising in cars, the beaches, women and etc...it resonnated more. It it Texas moreso than any other Southern State. What people fail to realize is that being located down south mean ALL types of music was getting played unlike in other regions. I could go out and hear a Wu Tang, Mobb Deep, Biggie set...then a Luke, Splack Pack, Kilo set...followed by a Snoop, Warren g, Spice 1 set with some Twista, Dayton Fam, Geto boys and etc played also. That's one of the reasons why the South felt slighted when other areas discounted them wanting to be accepted.
With that said...I really doubt these young cats even know the basis of where any slang comes from. They'll think that Drake came up with "I'm on One" or that Turnt Up came from Future or Soulja Boy. They'll associate cooking with Young Jeezy
and etc. In summary...every region is connected and share influences...most poeple on this site will be more in tune to things ...moreso than the average fan...but just b/c an artist shouts out an area or get a beat from there doesn't mean shyt.
Hell this nicca from the bay and you know his influence on the A's trap sound
