Choosing to put more stake in the opinion you have of yourself, than you put in the opinions that people have about you. A sense of self is critical to living a healthy lifestyle. And it could, and often is the difference between true happiness in your own heart, and spending your entire life trying to make other people happy. Trying to make people comfortable toward your decisions, leads to a dead end most of the time.

I'd venture to say something along this line as well. How well you fair in life, for most people, seems to be dependent upon what you do between age 18-25. That's not a strict cut off point or anything since you can obviously go on to great things, but if you haven't done a damn thing by age 25 it's definitely an uphill battle.
