what other city you know that you could be in the hood, like a Lower East Side look up and see something as great as the Empire State Building ?... so close yet so far.
I think any city that's a major melting pot ... And NYC has been a major melting pot for well over a century now will breed interesting unique people.
I can only assume the same for L.A & London etc etc

SMELL LIKE PISS EVERYDAY AND PRETEND YOU LIVE IN A GREAT CITY, BROTHER!

here's something funny i wanted to add speaking of the ny state of mind. the new york state of mind is for the most part around the nyc area which includes southwest connecticut, north jersey, westchester and etc. it works well when you're in nyc. when you're in somewhere like north jersey however, it doesn't mix. you can't have a "new york state of mind" mentality while living in north jersey. this is why north jersey gets a bad rep because it's actually a slow paced place.
new yorkers are just about as big of a$$holes as north jersey people EXCEPT that they have more of an excuse. the environment in nyc will pretty much make you an ADD personality where you have to think like that in order to survive. in jersey on the other hand, it'll just make you miserable because the environment is slow for the most part.
everyone from billy joel, nas, jay, the last poets (hip hop's architects), etc. refer to this 'NY state of mind' in their songs, but what is it exactly? what do they mean by that?
can any new yorkers elaborate on this? do new yorkers grow up differently and have a different mindset from everybody else around the america/the world?
I get it now.
I never understood the New York State of Mind (grew up in Delaware) until I drove up there one day. I was on Vessy street near the Towers & I was likeI get it now.
You feel the hustle. Some records man.....when you go to where their from, you find all the nuances in the songs. How environment can influence writing. I remember one night driving up the FDR playing...
