We got Jordan yall, he's with us again
That said, in his letter I couldn't help but notice this line -
I always hear about this, but it never makes any kind of sense to me, what is this sacrifice? Can someone help explain what sacrifice cops are making that other professions aren't? You never hear about the sacrifice roofers, loggers or long shore fishermen make, and they have worse pay and a higher rate of fatality than police. There's no reverence for the long shore fisherman that could die in about 100 different ways just to get you your lobster or crab. I mean base pay for NYPD after 5 years is $60,000 without overtime and with overtime most of these dudes are making around $100k or more. For example the top earner in overtime 2 years ago made $82,000 extra ontop of his $112,000 salary, these dudes are pulling in serious money all across the country.
They have a pension, benefits out the ass and a strong union all while having a job that isn't even statistically top 10 for most dangerous, they don't get nearly the amount of hate as people working in retail get. So where or rather what is the sacrifice I keep reading about?
