Only posted (semi) realistic candidates. :mjpls:

I'm going with Kawhi (media darling) or LeBron/Irving. Curry most likely won't get it because his numbers will decline & voter fatigue. KD probably won't get it because he joined the winningest team in NBA history.

Outside shots are Westbrook & Harden depending on if they can finish as a Top 4 seed with garbage supporting casts while averaging crazy numbers like 35/10 or something.

If I had to put money on it, Kawhi

-Media adores him. Finished 2nd in voting last year
-Duncan officially passing the torch onto him will be a top story
-Spurs have a great chance of upsetting the Warriors on opening day. You can imagine the storylines and narratives that'll come out of that
-Curry and Durant playing together will split votes, Westbrook/Harden probably won't be on good enough teams and LeBron will not try in the regular season. He's been blatant about that

Westbrook.

He can finally play 100% without a great player but one who is basically buddies with the guys he should be destroying (like Green on the Warriors).

Westbrook has so much fire in him and now that he is The Man on his team and losing in key games because of giving up and bytching out is not something he could live with (at least not how KD is cool with it..)

It'll be LeBron or Kawhi. With Duncan officially gone the Spurs will be looked at as Kawhi's team, they have a great shot at finishing with a top 3 record, he might 3 peat for DPOY and he's improved his stats every season of his career. And with LeBron well, he's become a fan favorite again. He may coast and not put up the best numbers this season but the narrative would be that he'll still be considered the best player in the league and the most "valuable" player.

Curry & Durant will cancel each other out on votes, plus Durant will get slighted for joining the Warriors and for Curry, media isn't going to give someone MVP 3 years in a row, even if they do deserve it. They'll come up with w/e narrative they can to change it.

Guys like Westbrook/Harden/Davis/Towns will have the numbers but won't have the wins.

Thunder would have to be a really high seed. MVPs usually go to the 1st or 2nd seed.

Harden, Westbrook, maybe kawhi (altho I did think that him being top 2 in the MVP last year was absurd)

Lebron does not play like he cares about regular season basketball until mid february

I still think KD has a shot at winning an MVP if he is lights out all season.......they will not hold him going to GSW against him the way Bron's trip to the Heatles was.

Maybe a paul george....

Lebron, Kawhi, or Curry

Depending on the success of their teams:
Westbrook
George

I'm working on an MVP model to tackle this problem.....should have it done in a few days

but right now I'm leaning Harden or Kawhi.

Russ is the popular answer but I'm not sure how efficient he'll be and if they'll win enough.

Harden has the same problem in terms of winning but if he can win, under D'antoni as the primary ball handler he has the chance to put up a monster stat line in the same manner as a Nash or Lin.

Curry/Durant can't win.....Lebron is on chill mode during the regular season.

curry and durant cancel eachother out

leonard won't put up mvp numbers

lebron is in "chill" mode now in the regular season

kyrie won't put up numbers

harden will put up numbers but his team will stink

If OKC wins 50+ games nad russy gives up 27-7-5 he will win MVP

If the Cavs win 60+ games and Bron does his usually 25, 7, 7 he's got it. If Bron really goes into Duncan mode during the regular season and Kyrie makes "the leap" I could see him getting it. If the Thunder can manage 50 wins Russ will be up there.
