I'm watching the LAL & NYK game, and I'm following the narrative of LeBron passing Kareem for the scoring record, knowing it's going to happen but it feels totally forced with the Lakers record and their expectations.

Having said that, I wanted to get better perspective from Coli posters, what actually makes Lebron better than Kareem(outside of versatility which is position related in a sense, especially Kareems era)?

While LeBron accomplishments have yet to be already written, when I look at resumes I don't see an argument outside of FMVP? (2 to 4)

A number of us here never saw Kareem play much maybe outside of the late 80s towards his end.

I'm sure most will say Lebron just has a better skillset. Which he should considering Kareem is a 7-footer from the 60s 70s - 80s era

I personally never thought the record would be broken.

As far as dominance at their peak MJ and Shaq probably the only people I put with or above Bron. I put far more weight on postseason play and impact.

Shaq was not more dominant than LeBron peak-for-peak, this narrative needs to die. Bron is right there with Mike in terms of peak dominant PLAY...

Many people (including older people) questioned Kareem's ability to win a ring without an all-time point guard, let alone a good one.

Some look at his lack of 70s success post-Oscar despite a lack of great teams he had to play against, they look at game 7 of the 1980 Finals where he didn't play but the Lakers still won because Magic dropped 40, and they look at how even as he fell off in the late 80s, the Lakers were still an elite team

There's reason why if you look at most GOAT lists or goat debates before the last 10 years, Kareem wasn't always consensus top 3 like he is now.

With LeBron, he was the undisputed best player for his championships, and was the primary scorer and playmaker.

Eh I said with OR above and I grouped Shaq and Mike. So it didn't necessarily mean Shaq was better. I'd still say Mike would get the edge but that's kind of besides the point. We're pretty much splitting hairs anyway. The main thing is I would put those 3 in a separate group. And I don't have Kareem in there
