Mel Gibson is obviously a deplorable and disgusting person, and I won't watch anything he's done since, though I like some of his earlier stuff, but I will admit I really liked this when I saw it in 2000 in theaters. I was barely 15. It was in those days when you just went to movies, all the time, or at least I did, I saw like 6 movies on winter break that year.
It had all the charms and grace of Nancy Meyers, and the great casting and length, that you rarely see in romantic comedies now. I think there is probably more sexism, not to mention Mel Gibson that I would care for, but I'll still watch when it comes across TNT every so often.
Moving on to the remake, I thought that trailer was offensive and repugnant, in terms of treatment of women, and race, and I won't watch it. A great concept, for the post 2000's, but just terrible execution, that somehow comes off more sexist and misogynist than a 2000 Mel Gibson movie, which says a lot.
