What needs to be done right now to tackle climate change before it's too late?

It's too late.

Better prepare for a warming planet.

If you live in the Southern United States or states like Arizona - leave. Especially Florida.

Invest in the planet getting hotter and more unequal. Perhaps fatter too (if you can't get access to Ozempic).

Its been done-done, breh. I think a time machine is a nice place to start. :pachaha:

But in truth, It's a chain reaction that won't stop even if all humans disappeared TMRW morning and they stayed gone for the next decade . Now, we can certainly stop the increasng rate of the reaction , but we won't be able to stop it or even reverse it. This is the new normal.

The closest you can get to actually stopping it requires some complex geoenginineering stuff which most people are uncomfortable with. The green transition is a band-aid. Funky hippy concepts like eliminating cattle is also a bandaid. You'd need dynamic large scale, international geo projects to truly change our situation.

For example, for less than a billion dollars a year, the nations of earth could release sulfur-sulfates from jets in their airspace and this would actually lower the temperature of earth, but it doesnt stop the chain reaction tho. It mimics the cooling effect of volcanoes . Similarly, back in engineering school we used to joke about placing a thin film of aluminum foil at Earth's orbital L1 and L2 Lagrange points. This would reflect a huge amount of the suns output, without requiring us to change the physical atmosphere or even human behaviors in the ground.

But, Keep in mind that even tho these geoengineering methods would immediately stop what we feel on the ground as the effects of global warming, it would not actually remove Carbon/oxygen or methane emissions frome the air , because carbon is so damn reactive and difficult to unbind. So if the geo methods were to ever stop, the planet would immediately return to being a frying pan.

Can anything be done at this point?

Yes

There is no “too late”

There’s money to be made here
